Aligning life and business to the new normal.
What has become very apparent is that the effects of a global pandemic were not temporary, and the vast majority of plans and changes that were made to overcome the hurdles we faced, have reshaped our future as both individuals and businesses.
Business evolution
For many businesses daily operations relied largely on interpersonal communications and on-premises application of work effort and management. This posed and continues to pose a great challenge as we transgress through a period of enforced lockdowns, and continued workforce absenteeism brought about by COVID related concerns.
Those businesses which have weathered the storm so-to-speak, are those which were, and are suitably equipped to allow remote access to their daily business operations and data, providing them the ability to operate efficiently with a ‘home-based’ workforce.
In these instances, cloud based digital platforms have proved essential to business efficiencies and increased, or at the very least sustained profitability.
In many cases businesses with a superior digital functionality have shown significant increases in YOY growth versus notable decreases shown for businesses operating with on-premises only functionality.
The forced reliance on cloud or remote access solutions has shaped how businesses operate, reinforcing trust in their labour force to be able to operate effectively from remote environments. This has also allowed businesses to streamline labour forces through measuring productivity rather than attendance identifying those teams or individuals who are most effective at meeting their targets without direct person-to-person intervention.
This has resulted in many businesses reducing office space infrastructure for a more limited on-premises labour presence, allowing individuals who are able to work remotely to do so without the need for permanent on-premises office space.
As a counter result, many employees have welcomed the transition claiming improved productivity due to a less distracting home environment and the eliminated need for a daily commute to a work premises. Recent polls in the US indicate that 87% of employees favour a remote work environment, with 42% claiming that they would seek alternate employment should remote working not be an option.
What this indicates is a growing trend towards remote capabilities for employers, and those not willing or able to accommodate this will face labour challenges in a market which is already struggling to provide qualified individuals.
Cloud based business solutions provide a vital solution to our current market transformation allowing not only the ability for a remote labour force to conduct their daily duties with 99% efficiency, but also offering authorised users full transparency of daily operations 24/7 from almost any location around the world. In addition, the digitalisation of your business systems stands to automate many tasks which would otherwise have been labour intensive and time consuming. This could potentially allow staff members to increase productivity or administer additional tasks without necessarily increasing their individual workloads.
Digital business platforms are an inevitable truth with current indications that in excess of 85% of SBM’s will be operating on cloud-based solutions before the end of 2025.
